About Ashley Capps
I’m Ashley and I’m the creator of 4nursesBYnurses.com. Several years ago, my passion ignited for creating a platform where nurses could connect and encourage each other through the everyday challenges of nursing because – let’s face it – IT’S TOUGH! Nursing truly is a calling but sometimes that flame can be dimmed by the emotional, physical, and psychological demands of the job itself. Sharing in the most vulnerable times of our patient’s lives is intense and it takes it’s toll on us! So I decided several years ago, as my career was turning toward nursing leadership, nurses are taking care of the patients – but who’s taking care of the nurses???
First, I am a Christian, a wife, and a mother to two awesome kiddos. I am also a nurse executive for a not-for-profit health system in coastal South Carolina. My career began in 2000 when I graduated with an ADN and worked several years in critical care and the emergency department. It was awesome! I loved the excitement, challenge, and near constant “controlled” chaos of those areas. Then along came baby #1 and my needs changed – I wanted more stability and routine, and less CHAOS – so I enjoyed the flexibility of a nurse educator position. I completed an RN-BSN and along came baby #2! We relocated to the coast and I served as a nurse manager for a busy critical care unit – a most challenging and rewarding role! Now, as I pursue an MSN in executive leadership, I have transitioned to an associate vice president role where I’m responsible for multiple service lines including critical care, women’s and children’s, and emergency services.
What an amazing blessing this career has been and continues to be in my life. Everyday I am given the opportunity to help nurses through encouragement, recognition, inspiration, and empowerment to grow and develop to their fullest potential. Helping others realize their strengths and stretch to achieve their goals is such a rewarding gift. Supporting and caring for our patients through their most vulnerable times is certainly a humbling experience – and a genuine gift. When you are feeling overwhelmed and doubt begins to creep into your mind, remember the truly amazing career you have chosen. YOU were gifted with the skills and compassion to be a NURSE!
